Moto-Naughtiness

One of the tricky aspects of motorcycling that really ought to be touched upon in rider's training classes is the amount of temptation the average sickle bum has to contend with every time he/she gets on a bike.

Given the nimble handling, quick acceleration and small size of all but the least-capable bikes, there are a lot of opportunities to be rather naughty. Incidentally, that is the real reason your mom said you weren't allowed to have a motorcycle.

In gridlock, it's easy to slip between lanes (and cars) to keep moving. On ramps provide no end of thrills to those of a certain mindset. Then there are the myriad parking opportunities. Where can't a fellow find enough space to park his motorcycle? Sure, the rules say I'm not allowed to park on the sidewalk, but my heavy boots tell a different story.

The joys of hooliganism aside, the worst part about all this temptation (for me) is a strange mental tic of mine. Whenever I do anything even slighty illegal, I get the Judas Priest song "Breaking the Law" stuck in my head. Not the Beavis & Butthead version, mind you. The real deal.

Does this happen to anyone else?

yes it happens to me, but the song is Frank Sinatra's "Come Fly with Me".

Are you talking about the urge to be naughty or the feeling guilty?

I've done some things I sort of oughtn't have but seldom feel guilty!

Sort of the bonus for dealing with those bad weather days, being really cold, etc.

Two things to keep in mind...In Arizona, you CAN park on the sidewalk, especially if there happens to be an area for a bike rack (don't block the rack unless your bike is chained to one of the outside slots and leaves room for bicyclists) and the other...Lane Splitting or very close to it in AZ is a Speeding, Reckless Driving, Aggressive Driving ticket if the cop is being nice, if not, he can make the speeding a So Many over Safe conditions and make Aggressive into or add on Exhibition of Speed. The latter combo adds a minimum of 2 points and can not be removed with traffic school.

Wycked - I had no idea lane splitting was such a big offense here.

I'm not much for lane splitting (have done it twice, at stoplights, in unusually gnarled traffic), though it is tempting when traffic is crawling along and there's all that space being wasted between lanes...
