More Sexy Motorcycles

I've got to stop paying attention to what the motorcycle manufacturers are doing. If I just ignored stuff like that, I wouldn't have to live with knowing the following:

1. Ducati has a new "Streetfighter" model.
2. At approximately $15,000 just to buy it (ignoring all the costly maintenance that comes with owning an Italian object of lust) I can not justify, or even rationalize, owning a Ducati Streetfighter.

Sigh.

Eyes on the prize, Lucky.

Keep your eyes on that prize. The streetfighter might go faster but I bet you make more friends with the Ural. Are you going to leave the stock paint or flat black it?

In less than a year there will be plenty of Streetfighters on the used market with a couple thousand miles on them because some corporate exec A-holes thought it would be cool to own and realized you need to be a real rider to handle one. You'll be able to pick one up for just north of 10K with the kinks worked out...and if you're lucky Termignoni exhaust will already be installed at no extra cost. And hey...less maintenance on the new Ducatis'. If you get tired of riding it you can park it in the living room and call it art.

But...the Ural has a side car, right?

I had a bike like that once. Painted it in cammo. Haven't been able to find it since.

Maintenance on a Ural is less than a Ducati? On which planet? My Bonneville gets a major tweak every 12,000 miles which is often enough for me, but the Ducati needs one every 7500 miles. The Ural, from what I've read needs one every fill up.

Danny - It's a tough call. Sometimes, camo is tougher than flat black. But then, flat black is the ultimate motorcycle color...

mq01 - agreed

Life on Two Wheels - No doubt on all points. And yep, the Ural has a sidecar, so the party will definitely be where ever I am.

Canajun - I had the same problem with a jacket...

Conchscooter - Not less maintenance per se (we all know Urals make extraordinary mechanics out of ordinary men), less maintenance cost.

I can wrench on a low-tech bike with minimal tool investment and risk.

I can not wrench on my cutting edge, special tool and knowledge requiring Italian exotic without significant tool upgrades and a trailer in case I screw it all up.

Plus the Ural has a gun mount. Now that's a streetfighter.

Kliene Louie's going to hate me for this...

Hey, Lucky. Might you be interested in a '77 Bonneville Silver Jublilee?

Noam Sayin' - Well, I wouldn't kick it out of my garage if it showed up...

Baron - Yeah, so very, very pretty.
