You might have noticed I pick on Harley-Davidson motorcycles a fair bit around here. I believe, however, that I've mentioned once or twice that the second the XR1200 came out stateside, I'd be in line to get one.
Well... why didn't anyone TELL ME they are now available here in the United States?
In the photos, they look kind of "Powerwheels," if you know what I mean. Hopefully they're prettier in real life. I'd like to get one and leave it bone stock, just to drive all the other Harley owners nuts.
Anyhow, I'm definitely going to have to check one out in person. Which unfortunately means I'll have to go to one of the local HD shops. The good news is, I seem to be Harley-salesperson-proof, so I shouldn't get hassled too much.

I think they look nicer in real life than in the photos. Never actually ridden one (except in a showroom) but they are tall for a Harley. Still, if funds were no problem, there'd be one in the garage right now.
Welcome to the Dark Side.
If you buy one, I'll wager a Coke that you can't go 6 months without changing something from the "bone stock" configuration.

I figured you knew or I would have told you. I agree with Allen, you will be making changes.
I saw one for sale at a BMW dealership.
Read into that what you will... ;)
PS: yes, it sure is pretty... the only Harley I'd ever ride.
Ugh...I was just in to buy some Buell pegs for my SV650 (long story) and saw the XR1200. Big lump of steel.
That said...I got home this weekend to find a flyer from HD telling me that if I buy ANY sportster, that if I traded it in for another HD, they would buy it back for the SAME price I paid for it. Kinda like a Rolex...
A Sportster is a Sportster is a Sportster. They're all pretty cool looking and a great bike for the right rider.
The Harley dealers in your area must be different than here in the Denver area. I get only what I want or ask for here. No major sales pitches at all.
Canajun - Yeah, I might have some problems in the "funding" area as well. Looking is still free, though!
Mr. Moto - Not there yet. Besides, word on the street is Sportsters aren't really Harleys. :D
Allen - I think you underestimate my stubbornness.
Danny - I figured I'd know too, that's why I was shocked. I guess I've been further out of the loop than I thought.
Stacy - I'm always amazed by the tasty used offerings our local BMW shop has outside. Of course, I usually get too distracted by the even tastier offerings inside to look at the used bikes for long...
Life on Two Wheels - I saw that too. The thing is, I don't like any of the other HD products as much as the Sportsters.
gael_cee - The ones I've been to here don't even say "Hi" as they walk by. I think it's because I don't look like an orthodontist.
Lucky,
Thems is fightin words >:-{
Mr. Moto - No offense intended, just playing around. I think the "half a Harley" thing is B.S., and I don't care what anyone rides so long as it has two wheels.
No offense taken. I knew you were kidding. Even if you weren't. I still wouldn't care. Ride what you want. That's why they make so many different kinds of bikes.
im with allen (but i dont bet), its an addiction, you cant help but buy one thing to add or change, next think you know its another thing, ...
I agree with you big guy...as long as it has 2 wheels...
