One of these vehicles strikes terror in the hearts of the about-to-be-invaded. The other is just a corny replica viking boat with purple trim. |
On my way there, I very briefly contemplated how, exactly, I was going to make this photo happen. I assumed there would be traffic, along with pedestrians and children with a poor sense of their own mortality. But when I got there, I discovered there was no traffic in the area whatsoever, and no people around. I mean, nobody.
So, I asked myself what Beowulf would do, and I determined he would ride his motorcycle right up the sidewalk without even slowing down, park, get the photo, and be gone before anyone even realized what happened.
What I hadn't been counting on was that the Vikings' training facility security apparently doesn't have much to do on the weekend.
Did I mention that I hadn't slowed down when I rode up on to the sidewalk? Seriously, I was up the sidewalk and parked in a matter of seconds. Despite my speed and stealth, I didn't even have time to put the kickstand down before a security guard stopped and asked me what, exactly, I thought I was doing.
I have heard it's easier to beg forgiveness than to ask permission. So I said, "Obviously, I'm trying to steal this boat."
Security guards, incidentally, are not easily amused. A little more discussion, and the explanation that I was only there to take a photo and go away again cleared things up.
Photo taken, I considered the mission accomplished, so I rode a little further down the sidewalk and set off with an eye to the next adventure. I left the boat where it was.
Though, I have to say, that thing would have looked pretty good parked out in front of my place...

Excuse The Mess update: No, I'm not done with the remodel here, but I hate to just leave you hanging... Things are going to keep changing a bit. Thanks for your patience.

That complex isn't too far from where I grew up (I think I've mentioned the fun of taking (West Bush Lake Road at speed) and I must say the boat's in much better condition than it used to be.
It was looking pretty spiffy. I wonder if it was just refurbished. There was a photo on the Roadside American site in which it looked pretty crummy...
Nice answer. Funny how security guards don't always have a sense of ha-ha. With the security guard at least you know why there wasn't anyone about.
That boat is pretty cool though. You need to dress like viking for the pic.

"And heated gear sounds fantastic. I might have to look into this futuristic technology and see if I can fit it into my budget.
The temps here on the Middle Coast haven't gotten down to freezing yet, but we're on our way. It might be time for me to invest in a box of chemical handwarmers...
Offtopic: have you ever tried those "reusuable" hand warmers ?

like these ones. You just have to Boil them to "regenerate"
Technically being on the sidewalk is public property, so you weren't really trespassing

hail thor! oh wait...
i bet triumph wishes you'd brought that pretty knarr home.
i'm with trobairitz...where's the viking? ;)
Trobairitz - You know, I knew I was forgetting an important detail, but I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was...
Bob Skoot - I haven't. In fact, I'd forgotten such a thing exists until you mention it. I'll have to track some down and try them out this winter.
mq01 - Yes, Triumph has been hounding me to go back at night and retrieve it.
I had no idea so many biker women want to see me dressed as a viking. You know, all you girls had to do was ask...
Sooo, is it in your back yard yet?
RichardM - I can neither confirm nor deny...
I would have LOVED to be there to hear you say "Stealing this boat. . ."
Oh! Funny!
If the deed isn't done yet, let me help you. I'm a great distraction!
;D
