The Weather Here Has Been Contemptible

The heat here in Phoenix has been overwhelming for the last several weeks. Extremely high heat and high humidity just sucks. Coming in to the office covered in sweat isn't much fun, and getting home absolutely soaked with sweat is less fun. So I've been carpooling with Lady Luck.

I was getting a bit twitchy from the time away from the bike, though, and I am glad the temperatures are falling.

This morning I rode in to work for the first time since early August. It's funny how quickly new routines develop, and how difficult it can be to get back in to an old routine. I got my boots on, and then had to stop and think about what gear I needed to put on next.

It's probably for the best, then, that I was less than two miles from home when I encountered a guy in a Mustang that wanted to race. Silly man, Mustangs are many things, but they aren't fast.* Not compared to a bike, anyhow. After giving him a brief demonstration of how inertia impedes velocity, I felt like I was back in the groove.

Fall is just around the corner, which means comfortable riding. Hooray!

*I can say that because I really like Mustangs, even if they're a bit poky.

Looks like our annual Denver heat wave is over. We're in for about a week of 70s by day, 40s by night.

Sorry- that's probably not what you want to hear!

At what temperature does it become tolerable? I had always thought that Arizona didn't have the high humidity that makes higher temperatures completely intolerable? Nice to hear that you are getting back out on two wheels. Our riding season is starting to come to a close with morning temperatures in the mid 30s (°F).

Lucky:

I have adopted your Arizona philosphy when our temps get above 25°c . A/C is better than sweating but next week back to riding as temps will be much cooler. Fall is in the air, much cooler at night

Starting to cool down here now too, except for us it's cooling down to no riding. Another 4-6 weeks and that'll be it until spring. Sigh.... always goes by way too fast.

Gee, wasn't that a Mustang you took me all over Phoenic in?

Still a treasured memory, by the way!

No Name - Yeah, probably not. Though it's down to only 100 degrees now. It's practically time to get out the winter clothes.

mq01 - It is a huge relief. This summer has been weird. Usually the highest temperatures are in July, but this year they waited until August.

RichardM - I find if it's under 105, it's pretty tolerable. Of course, that depends on humidity. If the humidity is low enough, anything up to ~110 is tolerable for me. Add humidity and it all goes to hell, though.

bobskoot - It's all about what you're used to. I find 40 degrees (F) to be pretty darn cold, though my friends and family in Minnesota laugh at the idea. It's still a solid 60 degrees colder than what I'm used to!

Canajun - You're not going to brave the ice and snow?

Irondad - It was. I like Mustangs. But I stand by what I said: they're not especially fast, when compared to, say, a Triumph.
