So this morning I rode the ET4 to work and I noticed a higher percentage of people driving like complete twits than when I'm on the Triumph.
And I wondered - are people extra rude around scooters, or is it just easier to notice them being rude when I'm not watching light bend on the Triumph?*
*I do have it on good authority that cagers just can't manage basic road etiquette around scooters.
That's why I like the Bonneville, cars treat me with respect. One ET4 is enough!
ReplyDeleteI expect you're right about the scooter. I've never driven/owned one, but I have noticed that the bigger the bike (of the ones I have owned) the more space I get.
ReplyDeleteFrom two years of experience on a scoot, I can testify that cagers will pull $#!+ on a scooter driver they wouldn't think of with someone on a motorcycle - up to and including out and out harassment.
ReplyDeleteAs long as I'm hear, I could use a bit of feedback. I'm thinking of buying a motorcycle this year. One question I need to answer is whether or not I'll be happy on something around 900cc or should I jump to something in the 1100 - 1300 range. I'm thinking for a touring or sport-touring bike; something on which I can kick around Northern MN & WI and eventually maybe a trip out to the PCH.
Thought I had something in the BMW R1200RT, but that bike is just a couple inches too high for me.

Noam - Shoot me an email with the bikes you are considering. It sounds like you are NOT considering a Harley, in which case I would suggest you go smaller (Harley's 1200cc is a lot different than a sport 1200cc).
I'll tell you more via email. Or write a whole post about it... I need to collect my thoughts.
I think the cagers just don't notice scooters, due to the size and possibly lack of noise...

Being a scooterist, and not having a motorcycle, I am unable to judge any difference in attitudes by cagers. But I think it might be unwise to feel any safer on a motorcycle.
